The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will today meet with the party’s caucus in the Senate over the 2017 budget and non-confirmation of the Acting Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, by the Senate.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed the meeting, but said it would centre on the 2017 budget.
But a source at the party’s secretariat in Abuja told New Telegraph that the non-confirmation of Magu by the Senate and the controversies that had trailed the Senate’s decision would form part of the agenda for the meeting.
According to the source, the national leadership of APC was said to be embarrassed with the altercations between the Senate and the nominees of the President in recent time.
The Senate had twice refused to confirm Magu as substantive chairman of the EFCC, while vehemently opposing the Comptroller of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd) to address the Senate in mufti. Ali was expected to appear before the Senate last Wednesday in his Comptroller- General of Customs’ uniform to address the senate.
On the issue of the senate caucus and APC leadership discussing budget, it will be recalled that a similar stakeholders’ meeting to discuss budget planning and passage was earlier organised by the Progressives Governors’ Forum last month but the meeting could not hold due to poor attendance.
