The trial of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof Adebiyi Daramola and the university’s Bursar, Mr Emmanuel Ayodeji Oresegun was yesterday put in abeyance following a petition by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the university.
The petition is alleging bias against the trial Judge, Justice Ademola Bola. Daramola and the Bursar are facing a 9-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence contrary to Section 1 (2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Act. Daramola and Oresegun are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Corruption (EFCC).
The court had at the last adjourned date on the instance of the EFCC’s lawyer, Dr Ben Ubi and the accused persons’ Mr Adebayo Adenipekun SAN and Mr Ibunkun Fasanmi granted bail and fixed the hearing of the case for yesterday. But when the case was mentioned, the attention of the trial judge was brought to the petition filed by JAC of the university.
