Create A Twitter Widget

Published

How To Create A Twitter Widget for your WordPress Themes . Twitter needs no introduction.Wordpress Themes It has become the way to reach audiences for some people and companies and a place to hang out for others. Placing a Twitter feed on one’s website has almost become compulsory. Embedding a feed isn’t all that difficult if you are comfortable with Twitter’s default widget, but making your own will enable you to blend it into your website seamlessly.Wordpress Themes

The Result

The result of our effort will be a WordPress widget that can be placed in a widgetized sidebar. It will display the user’s details on top and the latest few items from the user’s feed. You can see it in action in our Musico theme, although the screenshot below says it all.Wordpress Themes

About The Twitter Terms Of Service

Because this is a custom widget, you control what and how elements are displayed. Make sure to read Twitter’s “Developer Display Requirements” to find out what you need to display. I will be breaking some of the rules for simplicity’s sake, but bolting on stuff will be a trivial matter once you’ve finished this article.Wordpress Themes

Note that conforming to the requirements is a must. If you do not, you run the risk of your ID being banned which means that your widget will not display any tweets.

First Step: Create A Twitter App

Before writing any code, we’ll have to get our hands on a Twitter app or, more appropriately, Twitter API credentials. The process is explained in a video that I made:

In case you prefer reading to watching a video, here are the basic steps:

  1. Log into Twitter’s developers section.
  2. Go to “My Applications,” and click “Create a new application.”
  3. Fill out the required fields, accept the rules of the road, and then click on the “Create your Twitter application” button. You will not need a callback URL for this app, so feel free to leave it blank.
  4. Once the app has been created, click the “Create my access token” button.
  5. You’re done! You will need the following data later on:
    • consumer key,
    • consumer secret,
    • access token,
    • access token secret.
    • WordPress Themes

Add Our App’s Details

To add some options to our theme quickly, we’ll be using the theme customizer, introduced in WordPress 3.4. Smashing Magazine has an exhaustive article on it, if you’re interested to learn more. For now, we’ll just add the bare necessities.

Adding the code above to your theme’s functions.php file will generate a link to the customizer in the “Appearance” section of the admin area. To add some options, we’ll need to create a class. Add a file named MyCustomizer.class.php.

Nigerian Breweries backs Okpekpe race

Published

on

Nigeria’s pioneer and largest brewing firm, Nigerian Breweries Plc has joined the growing list of corporate organisations who have thrown their weight behind the first IAAF silver label road race in Nigeria nay West Africa, the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race.

Spokesman for the race Dare Esan revealed that the company is coming in as a Friend of the Race.

“It is a massive boost for the image of the race to have a pioneer brewing company support an event in which history will be made on May 12,” he said.

“Remember the race next month is the first ever IAAF silver label road race in Nigeria and West Africa. In 2015 we became the first road race in Nigeria to be granted an IAAF label status. This means the Okpekpe race is regarded as one of the world’s leading road running events.”

Esan further explained that a label certified the global sporting significance of the race, the organisational quality and the compliance with relevant IAAF competition rules.

Nigerian Breweries Plc will support the race with cash and some of their products.

He added “Nigerian Breweries have offered a cash support as well as some quantities of its non-alcoholic brand, Amstel Malta for the race. We are delighted to have the first and largest brewing company in Nigeria, a socially responsible corporate organisation with a good track record of corporate social initiatives back the first IAAF label road race in Nigeria.”

The sixth edition of the race will be live on television across the globe as all arrangements have been concluded with Supersport for a live telecast of the historic race in Okpekpe near Auchi, Edo state of Nigeria.

It is organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, leaders in sports marketing and hospitality business in Nigeria.

Rohr raises the alarm over Eagles’ defence

Published

on

… insists Ighalo, Musa can deliver goals

Mikel, others may face Atletico in Uyo

Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr has expressed worries over his team’s defence ahead of the World Cup following injury to Leon Balogun while his fellow central defender, William Troost-Ekong, has also lost his starting role for his Turkish club Bursaspor due to the arrival of a new coach.

Rohr also declared that Nigeria will be playing for a second round ticket as their primary target for the World Cup in Russia.

“The biggest problem confronting the team is injury. Five players including Balogun, Joel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi and Tyrone Ebuehi are currently sidelined,” he said

Speaking on a TV programme on Monday, Rohr said the realistic aim of the Super Eagles was to finish in the Top Two in the group stage where Nigeria will face Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.

He stated: “The target is to come out of the group; it’s a tough target because we are the outsiders in the group when you consider the rankings.”

The 64-year-old also revealed there was a big competition in the defensive midfield as up to seven players were competing for shirts in that position.

On the goalkeeping department, the German passed a vote of confidence on young goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, stating he is not afraid of pushing him to the fray in Russia despite his lack of experience.

“The goalkeeping coach worked with him for 10-days and the report he gave was very encouraging. He kept a clean sheet against Argentina in his first game and against Poland he did so well stopping (Robert) Lewandoski.

“He’s very young but I’m not afraid. He’s for the future. The World Cup is not the end of our football,” he added.

It was also revealed that Spanish top club Atletico Madrid would be playing against a yet-to-be-known team in Uyo and Rohr said it would be a fantastic opportunity to test some players who will be in Russia.

On the team’s recent low-scoring outings, Rohr said he is confident was of the strikers finding the net at the Mundial.

“Ighalo scored four times at the weekend. Musa also scored. We have intelligent players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi who can also score. I’m not worried about the forwards. Mikel Obi can also create and score goals.

Most of the talks have been centered on the final group match against two-time champions Argentina but Rohr expressed concerns over the European adversaries.

“We have a lot of works to do against Croatia. They play similar kind of football like Serbia. They are very difficult to play. The same applies to Iceland.”

Eagles must be wary of destructive football agents – Ikpeba

Published

on

Ex-international Victor Ikpeba has said Nigerians must not allow unscrupulous football agents to cause crisis in the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup.

The former African Footballer of the Year was miffed at a news report accusing Eagles’ Manager Gernot Rohr of forcing some national team players to sign for a particular football agent.

Ikepeba said it was a disturbing trend that at every World Cup year, football agents whose players were finding it difficult to make the team usually sponsor unfounded stories with a view to destabilizing the Eagles.

He urged the national team players and coaches to disregard any tendencies that could derail them from concentrating on the task ahead.

“The Super Eagles have to be careful because going to the World Cup some agents whose players could not make the team will do everything to destabilize the squad,” Ikpeba said on a TV progarmme on Monday.

“What this team and the coach need now is our support; they don’t need destructive reports and criticism. All hands must be on deck to ensure the Super Eagles do well at the World Cup.”
