Construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria (JBN) Ltd., has assured that the rehabilitation work on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja runway will be completed before April 19.
The company also disclosed that 40 per cent of the job has already been completed. The project manager of JBN, Dr. Lai’s Richter, who stated this during the inspection of the runway by members of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Aviation, said the procurement process has been completed, “the materials for the work is fully on ground and I do not see the repair work exceeding the deadline date for the opening of the runway.”
Also addressing the lawmakers, the site engineer, Mr. Yemi Ayelesan, explained that the entire surface area of the runway was milled to a certain depth.
He, however, said there are isolated portions of the runway that are bad and would need total reconstruction. According to him, “We have a programme of work that we are following, we have been able to mill the entire surface of the runway, laying asphalt does not take time, and the lighting system is going hand in hand with the rehabilitation work.”
