The University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter of the National Association of Edo State Students (NAESS) has showered encomium on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as he marked his 80th anniversary birthday two weeks ago. Chief Obasanjo, according to the students, while celebrating his birthday commissioned the Obasanjo Presidential Library (OPL), his pet project.
The student group in a statement through its President, Suleiman Oshioke Abdulahi, eulogised the octogenarian for his dogged and patriotic service to the country.
The statement reads in part: “On the occasion of your 80th birthday, I write on behalf of Edo State students to congratulate you on your service to Nigeria and Africa at large.
We are indeed proud of your achievements during your regime as president of the country, the hallmark of which was the ntroduction of Global System of Communication (GSM) to the country, which has today become A cross-section of the students taking oath of allegiance during the ceremony essential household.”
The statement added that the occasion is not just a mere celebration of OBJ sojourn on earth, but his achievements, legacies and unique style of leadership. According to Suleiman, the commissioning of the Obasanjo Presidential Library was an indication of OBJ’s commitment towards reducing illiteracy and contribution to the education development of the country.
While offering prayer to God to grant the former president long life and good health, he called on ‘Baba’ to continue in the spirit of contributing meaningfully to the development of Nigerian students.
