The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has postponed the hitherto scheduled national Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party indefinitely. The meetings which were scheduled two weeks ago were to hold 24 and 25 respectively.
The party, in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the postponement was due to unexpected developments. Abdullahi said: “New dates for the meetings will be communicated in due course.”
However, investigation revealed that the meetings were postponed on the demand of the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The President, who came back recently from oversees where he received medical treatment has absented himself once from Federal Executive meeting, while he cancelled the last Wednesday meeting. A source speaking, said, “The President is not in the good frame of health.
Therefore, he might not be able to attend the scheduled meetings of the party. And for the media not to report that the President did not attend the meetings, the best thing for the party and the Presidency was to postpone the meetings.” With this postponement, the party is likely to postpone its scheduled Mini non elective convention.
The convention was scheduled for April 29 waiting for the ratification of the postponed NEC of April 25.
