Begging has no basis in Islam, says Sultan

Published

on

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, said on Saturday that begging has no basis in Islam and challenged those engaging in the act to find legitimate means of earning a living.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar made the remark in Sokoto at the graduation of 2000 women trained in various skills by the Wife of Sokoto State Governor Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal.

The training was conducted in collaboration with Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission to empower the women drawn from the 86 districts of the state.

The Sultan said: “Our women should always desist from street begging, as it has no base in Islam and it only generates more harm than good among the society.

“Women have always been the pillars for any societal development, so we need to do more in encouraging and supporting their living standard in order to yield a better society.

“Moreover empowering women is one of the positive bases to a better, secured and productive society.”

He commended Mrs Tambuwal for initiating the programme and admonished the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity to enhace their livelihood.

Earlier, the governor’s wife had expressed appreciation to the Sultanate Council, the state government and Zakkat commission for supporting the initiative.

She said that the skills’ training was principally to make women in the state self-reliant.

Mrs Tambuwal, who was represented by Hajiya Hauwa Muhammad, called on the beneficiaries to apply the new skills they acquired to uplift their economic status and contribute to the overall development of the state.

The Overseer of the Zakat commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, said that the 2000 women were carefully selected and empowered to live above the poverty line.

Pressing forward

Published

Dr OLUSEGUN ADELEYE …Not that I have already attained or am already perfected; but I press on. That I may lay hold of that of which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Philippians 3:12 A Christ-like life is progressive and a continuous one. You cannot have enough of it and therefore do not relax and feel that you have apprehended or attained it. A new life in Christ is never stagnant. For the acceleration of new things to come, it is necessary to “forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead” (Philippians 3: 13).

There are two kinds of past that must not be dwelt upon. First, is past virtuous deeds that make one to be full of empty satisfaction and contentment. Reliance on past achievements can hinder pressing forward to attract new th ings. Second is the danger of dwelling on sins, past failures and unpalatable experience.

Dwelling on the past may hinder the materialization of the present and the fulfillment of a bright future. Pray like this: Lord, have mercy upon me, forgive all ‘my iniquities, let not my past hinder my present and future in the name of Jesus. My life shall not be stagnant in Jesus name. Rev. Dr Olusegun Adeleye (08033014891- SMS only, 08035022884). He is the General Overseer of Christian Overcomers Mission (Oluwagbebe s street Ilupeju Estate, Akowonjo, Lagos.

Nigeria project, no man’s affair

Published

The mountain that appears insurmountable in the lives of many people and our nation Nigeria are not caused by the devil, but by their wrong mindset. When the mind of a man is set on wrong things like defeat, failure, impossibility, poverty,… Such a man cannot experience something different from what he occupies his mind with.

But when you think right, you will be energized to act right, and great thing will come your way. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:’ Prov. 23: Take for example in our nation Nigeria today are feeling the pains of lawlessness, corruption, insecurity, poor medical facilities, bad education system, embezzlement, etc.

We know what we need, but we don’t know how to get them. Everybody seeks his personal comfort even at the expense of others. Our youths are helping in building other nations while our land suffers. Those who could not ‘run away’, though strong and vibrant are wasting away for lack of opportunity. Revelation without reformation cannot bring transformation. We need God to help us and we need God fearing people to manage our blessed resources for our common good. God Bless Nigeria. Evang. Pathway to divine blessing

Published

Do not be deceived; for whatsoever a man’s sows that shall he also reap… Galatians 6:7 Some fruits are sweet while others are bitter. So it is with us. Someone produces fruits and someone else doesn’t. The one that produces fruits is blessed and the fruits are blessed. Our Lord Jesus Christ’s Body was blessed and so were the fruits from His Body: His sputum healed the blind; objects from Peter and Paul’s bodies healed and delivered the sick.

They laid hands on the sick and they recovered. Therefore, like my Lord and the disciples, everything that is in me and comes out of my body is blessed. We had also learnt about THE BLESSING, which God Himself places on His children as the priest speaks it. Today, we have God’s spoken blessing upon the righteous. I repeat, God, who is the Blesser is the One speaking these blessings this evening.

Therefore, the blessings are as sure to happen as He has spoken them. Prayer My blessing covers everything about me: my health is blessed; my family is blessed; my organization is blessed; my Church is blessed; my country is blessed; everything I touch is blessed; Receive God’s spoken Word of blessings: Deuteronomy 28:1-14, by speaking it out and clinging to every word in faith.
