Two Grammy award winners, American Saxophonist, Najee and UK Singer-songwriter, Joss Stone, will headline Runway Jazz 2017, with performances from some of Nigeria’s finest entertainers including Waje, Yinka Davies, Dede, Heavy Wind, Tosin Alao, Xerona Duke and the host band, Sweet Sound.
Runway Jazz is a unique event that harmonises the classy worlds of jazz music and fashion, designed to showcase our proudly Nigerian (and African) culture and talents in celebration of the International Jazz Day.
The International Jazz Day, celebrated on April 30 each year, is dedicated to bringing together communities, schools, artists, historians, academicians, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world, to celebrate and learn about jazz – its roots, future and impact; raise awareness on the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication, the core principles of UNESCO.
In fulfilling this mandate, Runway Jazz was birthed to engage music and art enthusiasts and jazz aficionados, giving stylish expression to art and culture through music and fashion.
The focus on Jazz music really broadens its appeal, particularly in Nigeria and across Africa, and introduces an innovative franchise onto the Nigerian entertainment scene.
Runway Jazz 2017 will hold on April 29 and 30, at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre. The activities this year, the organizer stated, have been heightened and elevated by two strategic partnerships.
“The first is with the Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA, which will present a Music and Business masterclass, facilitated by Professor George W. Russell Jr., Chairman of the Harmony Department.
