Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has called on all Nigerians irrespective of their political affiliation and ethnic differences to work hard for the unity of Nigeria and make the country a very strong nation.
Speaking Thursday at the Commendation Service for the former Military Governor of Western Region and President of Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd), which held at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral at Ikeja in Lagos, Ambode described the late Adebayo as a “fine gentleman and a perfect man”, who worked tirelessly for the unity of Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.
His words: “For somebody to have died at the age of 89; there is so much that he has taken away that some of us who are new and young governors will not be able to assimilate. The major thing is that he was a fine gentleman and a perfect person.
“He had the love of Yoruba nation in his heart. He was a statesman who worked for the unity of Nigeria. He had a mission that is yet to be fulfilled by all of us. And that is to unite this country. I believe the time of his death has brought to fore, the mission to unite this country.
“I believe strongly that he had made his own positive difference. The remaining thing left for all of us, whether we are in leadership position or not is to carry on that mission by coming out strongly, unify ourselves and make Nigeria a very strong nation.”
