Copa Coca-Cola: Okocha, others applaud sponsor

Some ex-international have applauded Coca-Cola for investing in the development of football from the grassroots with their yearly Copa Coca Cola competition.
Speaking at this year’s final, former Super Eagles players, Austin Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Taiwo Ogunjobi all agreed that the organisation have done a lot for the development of football in the country.
“It is not easy to invest so much in such an event every year,” Okocha said.
“For Coca-Cola to have been consistent all these years, it shows they really have the interest of the young ones at heart.”
For Kanu, the level of the competition has improved compared to last year. He urged other organisations to invest more in youth development.
Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on football matter, Ogunjobi, believed the competition was an eye opener for him and would take a lot from it as he start work on developing football in the state.
He said: “We have abundant talents in Osun and I am sure after we might have completed some of the grassroots programmes we are working on in the state, we will come out with boys that will do us proud.”
Meanwhile, Progressive Comprehensive High School of Modakeke emerged the champion of the competition after defeating Owerri City College 1-0 thanks to Akinlabi Adewale, 44th minute strike.
No fewer than 5,000 schools took part in the national football tourney.
