BREAKING: NAFDAC, Marketers Clash in Kano
An earlier Morning attempt by the officials of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to confiscate alleged Contraband provisions and confectionaries at the Kano singer market was met by a stiff resistance from the Marketers.
Hundreds of the Marketers who thronged out to defend their goods as they saw the NAFDAC officials on duty were dispersed after several Canisters were fired by the Police escorting the Control officials.
The incidents that happen on Wednesday was provoked by alleged frequent raiding of the markets by the officials of the NAFDAC officials which the Marketers described as ulterior moves to weakened their business activities.
An independent eye witnessed alleged that the Police escorting the officials fired gunshots sending people to ran helter-skelter for their safety.
However, the head of Kano NAFDAC office Bashir Muazu denied that they fired any gunshot because according to him his Men left peacefully when they observed that situation was no longer friendly.
Chairman of the Singer Market Uba Zubairu who confirmed the clash between Marketers and the NAFDAC officials blamed some hoodlums whom he described as non Business operators at the market for causing the uproar.
He said the NAFDAC officials have been coming to the Market to conduct search of contraband and anytime they are there they did peacefully without any hitches.
“But this time around I think some disgruntled elements went and hired hoodlums who wanted to cause a scene in the market using NAFDAC visit.
