Yakubu Dogara celebrates at 50

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Barrister Yakubu Dogara, deemed it necessary to make his latest birthday anniversary a memorable one; more so that it was a milestone golden jubilee. Celebration kicked off some days back with a novelty match among members of the two chambers of the National Assembly. The event turned out to be a glamourous one with the presence of the likes of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Captain Hosa Okubor and other super rich dudes.
The event which started days earlier eventually got to its crescendo on 26th December. The first port of call for the birthday was before his creator where he went to do a thanks giving service at Living Faith Church, Abuja after which the train moved to two different orphanages where Dogara shared the joy of his day with the housemates. The grand finale took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, where dignitaries and movers and shakers of the society were present to celebrate with him. Meanwhile, Dogara’s biography titled, ‘A Reed Made Flint’, which was authored by Bashorun Dele Momodu, was equally launched at the event.
Yakubu Dogara was born to Yakubu Ganawuri and Saratu Yakubu on 26 December 1967. He began his education in 1976 at Gwarangah Primary School in the then Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Upon graduation in 1982, he proceeded to the Bauchi Teachers’ College for his secondary education, and obtained a Grade II Teachers’ Certificate in 1987. In 1988, he went on to the University of Jos, Plateau State, from where he obtained a Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons.) degree in 1992.
From 1992 to 1993, Dogara was a student at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School and was called to the bar in 1993. He later obtained a Masters (LLM) in International Commercial Law at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.
He first took up employment in April 1988 as a teacher at the ATBU Staff School in Bauchi. Upon completion of the NYSC programme in 1994, he went into private legal practice until 2005 when he was appointed Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Transport.
He held this position until 2006, when he decided to contest to represent the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.

Deji Doherty lays father to rest in style

Engineer Deji Doherty is known to different people for various things. While the dude is cherished by some for his business acumen which has helped him succeed in whatever he puts his hands, the chubby and tiny voiced power dresser to others is a man who deserves to be held in high esteem in his constituency as a politician who stands for his people.

 

While it is an established fact that this handsome politician is highly concerned about the wellbeing of the people, the PDP Chieftain, it has been discovered is also passionate about his father. The father, at the ripe age of 84, after a brief illness passed on.

 

 

The former Lagos State governorship aspirant said he was so close to his father that he didn’t believe he had passed on until when he and his brother took the corpse to the morgue. After several weeks of planning and burial arrangement, the deceased was committed to mother earth penultimate weekend.

 

With the status of the deceased as well as that of his children who are all doing very well in their various fields of endeavour, Pa Doherty could not have asked for more if it was possible as the burial process which took place both in Ibadan and Lagos was nothing short of a befitting burial. from popular Lagos family was a medical doctor and successful businessman.

Yemi Osinbajo, others, honour Babafemi Ojudu at in-law’s burial

Veteran journalist turned politician, who is the Special Adviser to President Mohammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, recently buried his father-in-law Pa Daniel Olajide Adebiyi. And by the virtue of his status as well as the good life the deceased lived, the burial ceremony which was done in Ekiti State ended up a classy one as the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo among other dignitaries turned up for the ceremony.

 

The burial rites which commenced on a Wednesday with a commendation service at Unity Secondary School, Ikere Ekiti was followed by service of songs at the deceased residence at Ajilosun Street, Ado Ekiti. The ceremony climaxed on Friday when a farewell service was held in honour of the deceased at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Otun Ekiti.

 

The Vice President paid glowing tributes to the deceased whom he described as a teacher of teachers, an astute and distinguished educationist and an elder in the Anglican faith from where he said he cut his religious teeth.

At the playground of Moba Grammar School, Otun Ekiti where the reception took place, guests were treated to good music, food and drinks as many prominent politicians within the state also turned up in solidarity with Ojudu.

Also in attendance were APC chieftains in the state including Senator Ayo Arise, Kayode Ojo, Bimbo Daramola, traditional rulers and many more.

Caleb Olumese returns for a new era

For anyone who is in tune with happenings in the social arena as far as Lagos metropolis is concerned, the name Ken Caleb Olumese will certainly not pose a problem. Edo born Olumese, better known as Guvnor, is a stakeholder in entertainment who owns the popular Niteshift Coliseum at Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos. It will be recalled this man, some years back announced his retirement from running his upscale hangout after over 30 years he had put in the game. Going by the story making rounds, Guvnor may have decided to return for another era in the hospitality business.

 

While the news of his return is fast spreading, revelers are not only happy, but they are anxiously waiting for action to kick up as they are sure of premium fun the Guvnor always provides as against fun currently dispensed in unprofessional manner all around. The latest upscale fun spot which is billed to open for business in matter of weeks will be known as The Premium Lounge, and it’s expected to be housed by the gigantic building known as The Coliseum, on Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja. Efforts, it was learnt are in top gear to complete final touches at the ground floor of the building, which is allotted to the lounge. The new venture, it was also learnt has the backing of Nigerian Breweries.
