53 persons jailed for life for 2013 bombing

A  court in Turkey sentenced a man to 53 life sentences for a 2013 bombing which killed 53 people near the border with Syria, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Friday.

The bombing in Reyhanli was, at the time, the deadliest spillover of violence from Syria into Turkey.

Five children were killed.

The court case did not settle the question of whether Nasir Eskiocak, the main suspect, operated on behalf of any organization.

The suspect was arrested about a month after the bombing, trying to escape to Syria. (dpa/NAN)
