Agege hosts NWFL Champions Shield March 4

The first ever Nigeria Women’s Football League Champions Shield between the country’s league champions and FA Cup winners have been scheduled to take place at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on March 4.
The Chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, disclosed this in a parked press conference held at the Sports Bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday. Falode stated that, the NWFL board was proud to present to Nigerians and the women’s football family the Champions Shield, which is the first of its kind in the country.
Falode said: “The NWPL champions, Nasarawa Amazons, and the Aiteo Women’s FA Cup champions, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, will square up at the Agege Stadium to play in a match that would determine the true Nigerian women’s football number one club.
“This class of competition for champions has been very competitive in the male category for ages, it will be the same thing for women’s football henceforth and we are glad about that. The fact that this is starting in our era as board members of the NWFL is something remarkable and we can’t stop saying a big thank you to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, who is sponsoring the event.” Falode noted that, the programme for the NWFL Champions Shield would involve the mentoring of young schoolgirls on the importance of education; without education, the future of a girl child is bleak. This has been slated for March 3 at the Agege Stadium. The participants would be randomly selected from schools in Agege area.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, said at the event that, Lagos was always ready to host great sports events whenever the proposal is presented. He stressed that, it feels good to have Lagos as the first host of the women’s Champions Shield.
