Tinubu: APC’s goodwill dwindling

…reject APC in 2019, Secondus tells Nigerians

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, declared the goodwill the party enjoyed among Nigerians was dwindling. Tinubu stated this when he met with members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on the way to reconcile aggrieved members of the party. That was as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, also yesterday called on Nigerians to get ready to vote out the APC-led Federal Government in the 2019 general elections.

Secondus, who described the present administration as a “government of confusion,” spoke in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital during the sixth year anniversary celebration of Governor Seriake Dickson’s government. Tinubu, who told journalists that he was at the APC secretariat to consult the party’s executive on the assignment given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari, admitted that governing Nigeria was a difficult task. His words: “We worked hard to victory. We have never governed before, but we won the confidence of Nigerians to govern.

We have a desire to really serve the country to change and reform the country. It is not easy to have those changes implemented like instant coffee. We have to grow it. We have to face challenges. “I sympathize with us and wish we equally look at ourselves.

Since we won the elections, the expectation was very high and the goodwill was extremely high, but where are we today?”

Explaining why the government and the party seemed not to have made much impact, he said: “The challenges faced by the government and the president are enormous. It is only because people are not paying attention to the various statistics that are available. We have to push that, but I won’t touch that yet. “The challenges of reform and re-engineering of the financesof thiscountry, stopping corruption and challenging the status quo is there, it doesn’t go away over night.”

On the reconciliation process, he said: “l came for consultation since you are aware of the assignment given to me and I am all ears to listen to various challenges we have. We have worked hard after the last convention of the party, congresses were held from various wards to elect repre-sentatives at the state, local government and national levels.”

The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who pledged the cooperation of the APC NWC in the reconciliation move, said: “I welcome you (Tinubu) here. There is no question at all that there are major issues in the National Assembly, Kano, Kogi and Benue states, but we will make your assignment a successful one.”

But, Secondus, who called for the rejection of the ruling party in the next elections, berated the APC for bringing hunger and poverty to Nigerians. He said: “I call on all prominent men to come back and rescue our nation from hunger and frustration that we are experiencing today. This broom has brought us poverty, hunger and killings. Never again shall we witness killings and poverty.”

Fayose backs Soyinka’s call for organized resistance against killer herdsmen

Fayose backs Soyinka’s call for organized resistance against killer herdsmen urges governors to protect their people

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has declared support for the call by Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka for an organized resistance, through the formation of informal organisations against the incursion of herdsmen, calling on governors in all States affected by the herdsmen menace to adopt such measure to protect their citizens.

While saying Nigeria and its people must be protected at all cost, Governor Fayose noted that “The comfort our leaders enjoy from their office is momentary. But the suffering of the people may be permanent if the leaders continue to look away as if nothing is happening just because they are enjoying the comfort of their office.”

According to a statement on Wednesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said he was particularly happy that notable leaders in the country, especially Prof Soyinka heeded his call for all men of good conscience to speak up against the wanton killing of Nigerians by herdsmen, who
are acting more like terrorists.

He said Ekiti State will further strengthen local hunters in the States by formally bringing them together under Ekiti State Hunters Association (EKSA) and equipping them to protect our people and their sources of livelihood.

Governor Fayose, who said that the herdsmen menace has become a major security and economic threat in the country added that it was clear that the federal government was not ready to do anything to stop killings of Nigerians and invasion of people’s farms by herdsmen.

The governor maintained that those approaching the herdsmen’s menace with ethnic and religious sentiments were not helping the country, saying; “What Nigeria is witnessing now is pure criminality. It is terrorism in the name of cattle rearing and anyone defending the killing of fellow Nigerians and destruction of farmlands is an enemy of this country.

“If our people have decided to embrace farming, how do we reconcile a situation where their farms are either being destroyed by cows or cruelly set ablaze by supposed herdsmen?

“Today, in many parts of the country, people are even afraid to go to the farm for fear of being killed by supposed herdsmen. How do we promote agriculture under this kind of situation?

“Therefore, I salute the courage of Prof Soyinka for speaking out, though late, it is better late than never.

“Those armed herdsmen are nothing but another form of Boko Haram insurgents and they must be treated as such.”

We won’t allow cattle colony in South-East- MASSOB/BIM

Movement for the Actualization of  Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Biafra Independent Movement(BIM), Ebonyi South zone, has said it would not tolerate activities and operations of any killer Fulani herdsmen within the South East geopolitical zone of the country.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, leader of the group in Ebonyi South zone, Sunday Ezaka who condemned incessant killings of people across the country by Fulani herdsmen warned that there is no land for cattle colony within the zone as cattle herding remains a private business and not a national enterprise.

He warned any South East Governor contemplating to give land to Fulani herdsmen to have a rethink because such act would pave way for the mother of all crises within the zone.

The group further berated the leader of Ohanaeze Youth Council in Umuahia, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro for telling the leader of MASSOB/BIM, Chief Raph Uwazurike to vacate Igboland even as it described such statement as an abomination in Biafra.

The statement read in part: “MASSOB BIM will not tolerate or accommodate killer Fulani herdsmen within the south-east zone. The wanton killing and destruction of properties by this group have emphasized the need for Biafra. The country is presently witnessing the killing of innocent Nigerians and the Buhari-led administration is busy using propaganda to deceive Nigerians.

“We want to warn that any South East Governor that accommodates them, or give out lands for cattle colonies to them will face the wrath of MASSOB BIM. The president has been insensitive to the plight of non-Fulani in this country. This is not what a country should look like. We are indeed disappointed and embarrassed at the present administration’s system of governance.

“The Ebonyi south zone of MASSOB BIM under the leadership of Sunday Ezaka stands to challenge and counter the Umuahia, Ohanaeze youth council leader, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro for telling our leader, chief Raphael Uwazurike, the founder of the Actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra to vacate his father’s land for no reason.

“This is an abomination in Biafra land and the so-called Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro is not qualified to be an Igbo Biafra, let alone an organization. It is better for him to vacate from Igboland and Biafra nation as well to on exile where he will remain until Christ comes because if he stays in Igboland or in Biafra nation, he is going to be persecuted. The so called Umuahia Ohanaeze youth council is a composition of Igbo people.but strangers”.
