Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has decried that her husband was “trashed” after the party won the 2015 elections.
Mrs Tinubu revealed this when she featured on Your View, a breakfast show of Television Continental, where she alleged that Tinubu was sidelined despite his efforts towards ensuring that APC won the polls.
“He was campaigning, I did too. We were running three campaigns in my house. And for him to be trashed like that? But I saw somebody who has love for this country. I hate to speak because when I stand in the front of God, I don’t want, because of this man, go to hell.
“Occasionally, I would chip in and I would say, ‘You’re still helping out? Why are you helping out?’ He would say, ‘This country matters to me more,’” she said.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated Tinubu to reconcile aggrieved party members ahead of the 2019 general elections, an assignment the former governor of Lagos State has since begun.
Mrs. Tinubu, however, pointed out that despite that the Buhari-led administration was now under massive criticisms, the President remained “the candidate to beat” in the forthcoming poll.
She said, “Change takes only one person to champion. And you need leadership. For me, Buhari is still the candidate to beat. Leadership is inspirational. Management is technical. If you have all the degrees and you’re smart and savvy, it is not about leadership. How many people are you inspiring?
“And Buhari, how many years has he been there? I am not campaigning for him. I am not; because I have looked at the dynamics; the poor still trust him. I will tell you: when it comes to integrity, Buhari has it. I don’t know about now.”
Yahaya Bello gave herdsmen blank cheque to operate in Kogi – Faleke
A federal lawmaker and running mate to late Abubakar Audu in the 2015 governorship election in Kogi state, James Faleke, has accused Yahaya Bello, the Kogi state governor, of giving herdsmen a “blank cheque to operate in Kogi”.
Suspected herdsmen had invaded three communities in the state, killing 25.
The attacks, which occurred in Oganienugwu and Ikende communities in Dekina local government area and Abejukolo in Omala local government, happened after Bello said Kogi had land to accommodate herdsmen.
In a statement, Faleke described the killings as the “height of wickedness”.
He called on the state government to “accept responsibility for its failure”, and call the attention of the Miyetti Allah breeders association to the situation.
“The news came to us as a shock. That is wickedness of the highest order. What can we ever equate with human lives? How did we come to this sorry pass as a people?” Faleke asked.
“We are calling on the state government led by Governor Yahaya Bello who gave the Fulani herdsmen a blank cheque to operate in Kogi state in the first place to urgently move to draw the attention of the leadership of the herdsmen, the Miyetti Allah, to this wicked assault on the people of Kogi, while also rallying the various security organizations to action.
“We find it difficult to believe the statement credited to the state government after the attack which said ‘the attack was politically motivated’ instead the government should be bold enough to accept responsibility for its failure.
“We note that we have lived with Fulanis in our various communities since times past and had never had cause to fight them. We are therefore appealing to the original peaceful Fulanis living in our midst to be more accommodating and volunteer information to security agencies on invaders and criminals parading themselves as Fulanis.”
The group asked who would appear before the judicial panel set up by the government when the perpetrators were yet to be identified.
“How can the state government set up a judicial panel when investigations are still ongoing to unravel and arrest perpetrators of the henious crime?” he asked.
“So, who and who would appear before the panel? We sincerely hope this is not another opportunity for the witch hunt of perceived political enemies.
“We are aware that the government bought over 300 GSM handsets to some of its political informants to give information to it on anybody or group discussing or found to be speaking ill against government in all the 21 local governments.
“We advise that those informants be used to help track the movement of the herdsmen and not the peaceful Kogites.
” We hereby call for support for the displaced members of these communities. Public-spirited individuals, government and international agencies are urged to come to the aid of these people.”
Kwankwaso Denies Apologizing To Ganduje
The Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has vehemently denied apologizing to his successor Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, saying, ‘why should I apologize when it is Ganduje that should apologize to me for his misconducts’.
Speaking exclusively with Telegraph, the spokesperson to Kwankwaso, Hajiya Binta Sipikin said, ‘ I’m amazed and baffled to hear
speculations that my Boss Kwankwaso apologized to his godson Ganduje whom he made and nurtured, you know by this story you knew is a cook and Bull story that has no basis what so ever’.
She said rather than spreading rumours that Kwankwaso apologized to Ganduje the government now in Kano should do all they could to ensure that they pipe down Kwankwaso otherwise they should forget about 2019 because Kano people are highly fed up with them.
Binta Sipikin reminded that it was Kwankwaso who allegedly made Ganduje and allowed him to succeed him despite all odds and that since
when he left Kano he has no any concern with the State, ‘ but you could see that these people are always jittery of their misconduct that is why they are every day creating one falsehood to another’.
The spokesperson noted that the government of Ganduje should by now knows that the political prowess of Kwankwaso has since gone far away Kano, and that what her boss is looking for now and which Nigerians are earnestly waiting to give him is the presidency comes 2019, while Kano whether they like it or not he will change the leadership therein.
Speculations quickly spread in the Social Media that Senator Kwankawso had sent an apology letter to Ganduje seeking him to forgive his sins and allowed him to come to Kano and visit some places.
The Rumors has already sent bad signal among arch supporters of Kwankwaso with many of them starting regretting following him to
fought Ganduje and some even allegedly started throwing away their Red Caps.
Russia’s Vladimir Putin Wins Another Term
Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, has won won a fresh term of office, following a landslide victory of 73.9% of the vote, defeating the closest competitor, according to exit poll.
With the victory, Putin will lead Russia for another six years.
According to BBC, the main opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, was barred from the race.
The scale of victory – which had been widely predicted – was a marked increase in his share of the vote from 2012, when he won 64% of the votes.
A state exit poll put the turnout at 63.7%, down on 2012.
Mr Putin’s campaign had hoped for a large turnout, to give him the strongest possible mandate.
Video recordings from polling stations showed irregularities in a number of towns and cities across Russia. Several videos showed election officials stuffing boxes with ballot papers.
Early results showed that with just 21.3% of boxes counted, Mr Putin had almost 72% of the votes.
Exit polls, published as soon as voting ended, showed that Mr Putin’s closest opponent, Pavel Grudinin, was only projected to win 11.2%.
Mr Navalny was excluded from the election because of an embezzlement conviction that he said was manufactured by the Kremlin.
