INEC registers 231,435 in Lagos, deploys 30 additional machines

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos said it has registered 231, 435 voters in the ongoing continuous voter’s registration exercise as at February 13, 2018.

This is just as the commission said it has deployed 30 additional Direct Data Capturing Machines to speed up the registration process across the state.

Addressing newsmen at the INEC office in Lagos, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun, condemned incidences of extortion in the ongoing registration exercise.

The REC said some of its officers are currently facing disciplinary action over extortion of potential voters who wanted to register, warning the voters not to succumb to intimidation to bribe any official before they could be registered.

He disclosed that one officer was caught red- handed in Alimosho Local Government, urging members of the public to report any official demanding for gratification.
