NFF, Nike unveil Eagles’ jersey in London

The Super Eagles’ World Cup jersey is expected to be unveiled today (Wednesday) at a ceremony in London, England.
The Nigeria Football Federation had told journalists last month that the national team would kick start their preparation for Russia 2018 with the unveiling of the kits for the tournament.
Kit sponsors Nike will do the presentation in London and a couple of Super Eagles players are expected to grace the occasion.
Reports suggested the kits had some similarities with the jerseys Nigeria wore on the World Cup debut in 1994 in the United States of America.
That should evoke some nostalgia as the Eagles were barely minutes away from reaching the quarterfinal against eventual finalists Italy in the USA.
The Eagles were kitted by Adidas for the 2010 and 2014 editions of World Cup.
The Eagles are expected to launch these kits on March 23 when they face fellow World Cup finalists Poland in a pre-World Cup friendly.
Four days later, the Eagles will also wear the new kits for another World Cup warm-up game against Serbia in London.

Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship: Zenith Bank emerges official sponsor

Nigeria’s leading commercial bank, Zenith Bank Plc is now the official sponsor of the Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship.

In a statement signed by Olukayode Thomas on behalf of the Local Organising Committee, LOC for Asaba 2018, he said Zenith Bank was the preferred choice as official sponsor due to the bank’s impeccable track record.

“Zenith Bank was the preferred choice because of their commitment to the country, Delta state, sports development and even youth empowerment which we have seen the results across the country.” He said.

The deal with Zenith Bank was brokered by the Championship Consultant and Head of Brand and Communication, Mr. Bukola Olopade who is the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Limited.

Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship is one of the biggest athletics events of 2018 as it will serve as trials for the 2018 IAAF Continental Cup in Czech Republic.

Top names in the African athletics scene including the likes of Isaac Makwala, Marie-Josée Ta Lou, Caster Semenya, Wayde Van Niekerk, Akani Simbine, Julius Yego and of course stars from the home front, Blessing Okagbare, Tobiloba Amusan , Divine Oduduru among others are all expected to light up the tracks in Asaba.

The LOC and all the other members of the organizing committee for Asaba 2018 are quite delighted that a leading brand like Zenith Bank is associating itself with the African Championships.
They urged other brands to emulate Zenith Bank as the African Championships like sports in general help to engage the youth and give them a platform to rightly channel their energy and make the best off it.

Already, organizers have promised that like Delta State did when it hosted the Africa Youth Athletics Championships, AYAC and produced tops stars like Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Divine Oduduru among others, much more will be achieved at the Asaba 2018 Championships.

The Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship will hold from August 1-5, 2018.

Pinnick hails Moses, advises focus on World Cup

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has congratulated Super Eagles’ ace Victor Moses following the utility player’s triumph in the English FA Cup with Chelsea FC at the weekend.

A lone strike from the penalty spot by Eden Hazard against Manchester United at Wembley brought joy to the blue side of London and made Moses the sixth Nigerian to experience glory in the oldest knockout competition in world football. Before him were John Fashanu, Daniel Amokachi, Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka and Mikel John Obi. Obi, who is captain Moses and others at the FIFA World Cup, won also with Chelsea.

“I am happy for Victor Moses because this triumph sets him in a great mood and gives immense confidence for the FIFA World Cup in Russia. We have a number of friendly matches before the FIFA World Cup but the big focus is on the finals starting next month.

“Victory in the FA Cup is good for Moses as he will come into camp buoyed in spirit, and that good feeling is bound to infect and affect the other players positively,” Pinnick said on Monday.

Pinnick also applauded the good number of Super Eagles’ players who finished the season on a high, and those who were instrumental to their clubs’ accomplishments during the season, stating that confidence is key to facing up to the kind of opposition available at the FIFA World Cup.

Moses, who is the reigning NFF Football Awards Player of the Year, was the Super Eagles’ highest goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup African qualifying series with three goals. He netted a brace against Algeria in November 2016 and got the third in the 4-0 whiplash of African champions Cameroon on 1st September 2017, which set the Eagles on the path to Russia.

The Chelsea wingback, who plays as an attacking midfielder for the Eagles, will join up with his international team-mates in Uyo later this week, ahead of Monday’s international friendly against the Simba of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt.

The Super Eagles will then take on England in a prestige encounter at Wembley Stadium in London on 2nd June, before trading tackles with the Czech Republic in Austria on 6th June.
