Senate probes Ministries, MDAs, stakeholders

The Senate, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to suspend the new tariff on the importation of powdered milk into the country, as the new tariff substantially reduced the import duty from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.

Consequently, it mandated its committee on Agriculture, Finance and Customs to summon the ministries, MDAs and other relevant stakeholders for investigation.

 

The Senate took these decisions following an adopted motion titled, “urgent need to halt the implementation of the new import duty tariff on imported milk into the country”, sponsored by senator Sabo Nakudu (APC, Jigawa South West). While presenting his motion, Nakudu said that the new tariff had reduced duty payable on imported milk and that the consequences would be dangerous to both to Nigerians and Nigerian economy.
