Herdsmen Surrender 30 Guns To Police In Niger

The Director-General of the state’s Department of Nomadic Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Babayo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Tuesday.

Fulani herdsmen have surrendered 30 different guns illegally acquired, to the Police Command in Niger.

The Director-General of the state’s Department of Nomadic Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Babayo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Tuesday.

Babayo said that the arms were surrendered following peace and reconciliation initiated by the department to enhance peaceful coexistence in the state.

He said the department had already embarked on aggressive sensitisation campaign on the dangers of cattle rustling.

He said: “We have reached out to Islamic clerics, specifically to teach us what our religion said about stealing and killing innocent souls and the punishment there after.”

The director-general explained that the approach from religious point of view had greatly assisted in mobilising those who were doing illegal business to have a rethink.

He said that all efforts were geared toward mobilising Fulani Herdsmen to embrace western and Islamic education to enable them to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of the state.

Babayo said: “We are doing everything possible to stop clashes between herdsmen and farmers over land encroachment during grazing, cattle rustling or other crimes in the state.”

He called for demarcation of cattle routes while attributing the increase in cases of conflict between farmers and herdsmen to non-existence of such routes.

Babayo said the department would continue to partner with security agencies by offering intelligence information on bad elements.

He called for more investment in the education of herdsmen and farmers’ children, stressing that illiteracy was also breeding crimes among the groups.

He enjoined herdsmen to enroll their children, especially girls, in schools.

Mobile ecosystem rapidly evolved last 20 years – LG chief

President, LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Kevin Cha has said that LG Electronics’ strategy for smartphones is to continue expanding the Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, while constantly refining existing features to make them easier and more convenient to use.

He said the AI upgrades will not be limited to new LG models only but certain AI features will also be introduced to existing LG smartphones via overthe- air updates, after taking into consideration various hardware specifications and the stability of the LG smartphone models to ensure the user experience remains seamless, friendly and customised.

He noted that LG’s leadership signalled shift in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with the announcement that LG’s future is in AI and not limited to hardware specs and processing speeds. “Our focus, moving forward, is on creating smarter smartphones and we are excited about the transformation this will bring about in user experiences and behaviour.

“In the last 20 years, the mobile ecosystem has rapidly evolved, and we are now in a world in which consumer behaviour shifts and tech infrastructure grows even more capable in a period of mere months.

“Businesses may find it tempting to be driven by the changes in the world, but we believe it’s more important to keep an eye on the big future picture, without getting caught up and swept away by gimmicks and trends.

After all, reactionary approach is neither sustainable nor innovative. “In every generation, a number of emerging technologies converge, and something revolutionary occurs.

Over the past decade, a maturing internet, increasing bandwidth, sleek and more immersive and intuitive products have gained traction and the trend now seems to be with one of the most gamechanging of all times –AI technology.

“This new era is creating an ideal platform for artificial intelligence (AI) to move into the mainstream, and it is this convergence of increasing computing power, big data and machine learning that is reshaping the world we live in and our relationships with technology and each other.

“Mobile AI revolution is beginning to open up new and exciting possibilities for applications.

This revolution promises to reshape things in the next few years.

It will also be a revolution very different from what we have known so far, because it is no longer just a question of increasing the processing power of smartphones, but of a real concept change that involves giving our phones the ability to learn and decide for themselves the best way to function,” he said.

According to updates from the World Economic Report, five billion people have access to a mobile device, and more than three billion of the world’s citizens can instantly connect with almost anyone around the world via the internet. In the next few years, 50 billion things – everything from light bulbs and refrigerators to roads and clothing – will be connected to the internet.
