JUST IN: Several persons feared dead, properties destroyed in Kaduna – Plateau border clash

Several persons have been killed with scores injured in a communal clash between communities in Kaduna and Plateau states.

The incident took place in Kigam village of Kauru local government area of Kaduna state and a community in Bassa local government area of Plateau state on Monday night.

Worried by the development, Kaduna State Government has ordered security operatives to beef up security along the border areas to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

Government said it has also mandated the state Emergency Management Agency to immediately move to the area with relief materials to give succor to those affected.

A statement by Samuel Aruwan spokesman to Governor Nasir El-Rufai assured that security agencies in Kaduna State have been directed to work with their counterparts in Plateau State to contain the crisis along the border areas between the two states.

Aruwan said, the State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai gave the directive on Tuesday.

Aruwan regretted that “certain elements in the border communities succumbed to the tragic cycle of attack and reprisal”

The statement said, “the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has received reports of communal clashes in the border area with Plateau State. Lives and property were lost in the clashes, especially in Kigam village of Kauru local government and a community in Bassa local government area of nearby Plateau state.

“The Governor is saddened by this unfortunate incidence, and has directed that urgent security measures be taken around the border with Plateau State to secure lives and property.

“The Governor directed security agencies operating in Kaduna State to liaise with their counterparts in Plateau State and ensure that Kaduna state citizens are adequately protected, communities secured and that there be no escalation of the mayhem.

“The Governor of Kaduna State, furthermore, directs security agencies to work hand in hand with their Plateau State counterparts to ensure that those that killed our citizens are arrested and brought to justice.”

Aruwan added that the Governor has further directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilise relief materials to Kigam community.
