I lured nine-year-old girl with N10 biscuit –Accused



A 52-year old man, Gabriel Olaniyan, yesterday told an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, that he gave N10 biscuit to a nine-year-old girl before defiling her. In the charge marked MI/37c/2018, Olaniyan was said to have committed the crime on March 1 about 5p.m. at Alapafon area of Ibadan.


The prosecutor, Mrs. Folake Ewe, said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.


The plea of the accused was not taken by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. N. A. Ogunbona, and so was ordered to be remanded in prison till April 5 pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). During the proceeding, Ogunbona asked the accused why he defiled the minor, wondering whether it was for ritual purpose or with the intent to marry her.


More so, what he used to entice the girl. In his response, Olaniyan told the court that it was a mistake and that he used N10 biscuit to entice her, just to have canal knowledge of her, and not for ritual purpose.


In his account, the victim’s father, Mr. Adeleke, told the court that his daughter was on her way from a Quranic school when Olaniyan accosted and defiled her.


Adeleke disclosed that he had separated from his daughter’s mother and got married to another woman under whose care she is. The revelation provoked the chief magistrate, who lamented the rampant manner some elderly men are abusing minors in the society.
