CIBN elects president, reconstitutes council

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has elected new national officers led by Dr. Uche Messiah Olowu as president/chairman of council. The new officer according to a statement from CIBN, will steer the affairs of the institute for the next two years. The officers are Mr. Bayo Williams Olugbemi, 1st vice-president; Mr. Kenneth Onyewuchi Opara, 2nd Vice-President and Prof. Pius Oladeji Olanrewaju, national treasurer The new leaders according to the statement, would be inaugurated on May 19, 2018 during an investiture ceremony at the Bankers house in Lagos.

Before his new position, Olowu was the 1st vice president and chairman, board of fellows/practice licenses of the institute.He holds a master degree in business administration (MBA) and a doctorate degree in management-organisational behavior from Rivers State University of Science & Technology (RUST), Port Harcourt. Also, Olugbemi, who was elected as the 1st vice president has served as a member of the governing council of the institute (2016-2018) and a facilitator of several CIBN programmes including the 2016 & 2017 Annual Bankers’ Dinner, where he anchored the occasion as chairman of the planning committee.

Opara , the 2nd vice president is a fellow of the Institute. He is an associate of the Institute of Certified Pension of Nigeria as well as Chartered Institute of Credit Administration. His extensive experiences over the last 24 years in key positions include; branch banking/regional management, customer banking, electronic banking, retail banking and SME banking. Also, Olanrewaju, the national treasurer of the institute is a thorough bred professional and a seasoned academic. He belongs to many professional bodies among, which are the CIBN, Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR), Institute of Management and administrative Technology (IMAT)and a member, Enterprise Risk Management Professionals (ERMP).
