Don’t sell your votes, Bamidele tells APC delegates

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary approaches, a governorship aspirant, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has appealed to the delegates not to allow the influence of money to dictate their choice of candidate. Bamidele, in a statement signed by his media assistant, Ahmed Salami, said what should be uppermost in the minds of the delegates was how the party would emerge and remedy the years of locust foisted on the state by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration. The former Lagos State commissioner for Information and Strategy said any money offered to them by aspirants should be seen as a product of generosity and not an attempt to buy their conscience ahead of the primary.

Bamidele, who described himself as the best man well-prepared by his past political offices to steer the ship of the state to the promise land, urged the delegates to consider the pedigree of all aspirants and what they had achieved in their past offices in arriving at the best candidate for the party.

The former member of the House of Representatives also appealed to the APC leadership to ensure that the choice of the delegates as represented by their votes carried the day. He added that any manipulation could trigger disharmony in the party. Bamidele disagreed with those calling on former governors not to participate in the primary, saying it was their constitutional right if they believed they were best suited to govern the state.

He said his quarrel with them would be if they attempted to use their position to manipulate the primary in their favour, saying no one should expect the former governors to behave like former governor of the state, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, who resisted every pressure to contest the 2007 election following his loss of the election in 2003.

He also enjoined party leaders to help ensure cohesion in the party as a critical decision as being made to elect the flag-bearer of the party in the July 14 election. Bamidele maintained that what should be paramount in the minds of every member of the party was how to return APC to power in the state, adding that this would dictate all his actions before and after the primary.
