Barely 24 hours after the Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) of Ondo State was kidnapped, two staff of Akure North Local Government area of the State; Marcus Akinduko and Gabriel Ajayi were again kidnapped at the weekend.

The Local Government staff were abducted along Owo/Ido-Ani road in Ose Local Government area of the state.

The duo and three other staff of the Local Government were coming from a funeral ceremony at Ifira in Akoko Southeast Local Government area of the state when they ran into an ambush laid for them by armed gunmen.

A source told New Telegraph yesterday that four armed gang intercepted the vehicle the Local Government staff were travelling and forced them to disembark.

The gunmen took into their custody, Akinduko and Ajayi and left three others to source for fund to pay the ransom of the victims.

They, however, sized the phone of one of the occupants, Mrs Fadeke Adeseeke and used the sim card to contact the families of the victims to pay the ransom.

Family sources said the kidnappers have demanded for N50 million ransoms in order to secure the release the captives.

This development came as the NURTW is sourcing for N5million in order to secure the release of the Secretary of the union, Mr Kayode Agbeyangi who was kidnapped along Akure/Ilesa road in Osun State at the weekend.

The NURTW scribe was said to have been kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday while he was travelling to Lagos State to meet members of his family.

It was gathered that the vehicle of Agbeyangi was found along the Akure-Ilesa expressway in Osun State.

It was also gathered that the abductors had contacted the family of the victim, demanding a sum of N5million ransom but the source said the family was yet to make the money available as at the press time.

The chairman of the union in the state, Jacob Adebo popularly called Idajo who confirmed the incident said, the scribe was kidnapped on the expressway at Ilesa area.

His words “He was kidnapped when he was travelling to Lagos and the kidnappers have called the family. They said the family should give them N5million before he could be released and there is no way we can get N5million.

Adebo said the suspected kidnappers insisted that he would not be released until the ransom is paid. He said the union is sourcing for the fund in order to secure the release.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph who confirmed the kidnapping of the two Local Government staff said the suspected kidnappers have not contacted the families in order to demand for ransom.

He, however, said the Police would do everything possible to secure the release of the civil servants.

On the abduction of NURTW Scribe, Joseph said the incident happened outside Ondo State and it was not reported in the state.

His words” The incident did not happen in our jurisdiction, if it had happened here, our men would have taken action immediately”
