Kebbi State police command yesterday said it had apprehended four suspected kidnappers who were Fulani at Koko-Basse Local Government Area of the state and retrieved the N800, 000 ransom they allegedly collected from their victims.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects, who had kidnapped a Fulani leader in Koko-Basse, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Dikko Ardo, succeeded in collecting N300, 000 of the N3 million ransom demanded from his family before he was released. They also kidnapped another victim, whose name could not be ascertained and collected N500, 000 ransom from his family.
The incident happened at Koko- Basse at the weekend. A reliable source informed newsmen yesterday in Birnin kebbi that “the suspected kidnappers called the victim’s family and asked for N3 million. But the victim’s family could not get the money demanded.
They were only able to gather N500, 000 and he was released after the ransom had been paid.”
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Mustapha Suleiman, who confirmed the incident in an interaction with newsmen, said it was the police patrol team along the Koko-Basse-Fakai Road that apprehended the suspects after they had completed their operations.
The police spokesman, who gave their names as Mohammadu Many a.k.a. Amadu, Muhammadu Muhammad, Umar Mohammadu, Abdulkarim Isiya, said the suspects were heading to Zuru before nemesis caught up with them
