Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday, inducted at least 745 unemployed youths into the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) and the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) as part of the state’s empowerment programmes.

The beneficiaries of the scheme are made up of the third cycle of the 2017/2018 programme, which consisted of 209 Brown-STEP, 347 Green-STEP and 159 YAGEP, under the World Bank European Assisted SEEFOR project.

The governor, who was joined by three monarchs, the Orodje of Okpe, the Pere of Akugbene and the Obi of Obulu-nor Kingdoms, as well as the Chief Job Creation Officer of the state, Prof. Eric Eboh; Chairman of the Steering Committee for the programme and the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu, and his Information counterpart, Patrick Ukah, expressed delight that more than 30 physically challenged persons were on the list of beneficiaries.

Okowa, while inducting them during the ceremony in Asaba, the state capital, said this year’s cycle would be hinged on sustainability, mentorship and monitoring, even as he charged the inductees to be determined and committed during and after the training programme.

He said: “Success is attractable, sustainable, achievable and promotable, and that is what we stand to gain as a state. By character and deeds, you are expected to be epistle of the programmes. Stay in contact with your respective Directorate of Mentoring and Monitoring.

If you succeed, you have invariably become a role model to other youths. “The programmes are not just about calling people for training and giving them money and starter packs, it is for positive growth, and to strengthen their willpower so as to pursue a set goal to achieve the right desire of being hopeful in life.”
