Four undergraduates arraigned for gang-raping, video recording girl

Four undergraduates of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State were arraigned yester for allegedly gang-rap ing a lady and video recording the incident.

The four men, Akinola Timilehin, Olagbaju Tobi, Adeyemi Adebisi and Adetunji Olakunle, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape, contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1, laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The suspects were earlier arrested by the police last year. The victim, Odunayo, narrated in chilling details, how the men raped and video recorded her. The victim was a 100 level student of the school at the time of the incident. One of the accused, Timilehin, who had earlier confessed to raping the victim and video recording it, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The accused were alleged to have raped the victim and later threatened her with a charm on July 3, 2017, at No. 17, Fumbi Fagun Road, Ondo. The prosecution counsel, Mrs. Stella Adegoke, called Odunayo, who narrated her ordeal in the hands of her rapists.

Odunayo told the court that the four defendants raped her along with one other man who is now at large. She said that the first accused person, Timilehin, who was her boyfriend, took her to his friend’s house. She claimed that the other defendants who were his friends were there when she quarrelled with Timilehin for bringing her to the house.

Odunayo stated that it was at this point that the second accused person, Tobi, barged into the room and told her that he was a cultist. He brought out a charm and threatened her. She said: “I was in a state of confusion.

It was then they came in one by one and raped me. They came with a guy called Eric, who is now at large. After the incident, they forced me to eat in order to regain my strength. I was already too weak by then. When I was eventually released, it was raining heavily.

They took me to a nearby pharmacist for First Aid treatment. It was on the second day that I reported the incident to the school authorities.”

An official of ACE, Akinladenu Adepetu, said that the victim narrated how the defendants raped her when she reported the incident to the school authorities. Adepetu said that the school authorities immediately organised and arrested the accused.
