Police in Ogun State have arrested two men for allegedly killing their neighbour, identified as Happy Patrick and stealing his Bajaj motorcycle.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, identified the two suspects as 35-year-old Patrick Udom and James Roland (25). Udom hails from Akwa Ibom State while Roland is an indigene of Delta State.
The police spokesman said the suspects allegedly committed the crime on Tuesday at Obalende area of Ijebu-Ode. According to him, the two men were nabbed following a complaint by the brother of the victim, Moses Utuede.
Oyeyemi stated that the police recovered the two machetes used to kill the victim, one hammer and a digger. He said: “Utuede reported at Obanlende Divisional Headquarters that his younger brother by name, Happy Patrick, left home about 7a.m. on 15th of May 2018 and yet to return with his motorcycle.
“On the strength of the report, the DPO, SP Jaiye Richard, detailed detectives to embark on full scale investigation in order to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the victim.
“Investigation later revealed that the victim was last seen with Patrick Udom and he was promptly arrested. After a thorough investigation, the said Patrick Udom confessed to have killed the victim ably assisted by Roland James.
“He stated further that the victim, who lived in the same community of Imodi-Imosan with them, was killed because they wanted to steal his motorcycle which they actually did after killing their victim.”
The PPRO added that the victim’s body, which was concealed in a sack and thrown in a nearby bush, had been recovered. He also said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliysasu, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discrete investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
