The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has expressed sadness over the killing of hundreds of Citizens in Barkin Ladi Local Government of Plateau State and equally caution Nigerians not to allow religious crisis in the Country.
He said the Federal Government must arrest the perpetrators and punish them for their action.
Osinbanjo disclosed this in Jos on Monday evening while addressing leaders of Berom and Fulani Communities at the New Government House Rayfield Jos
He said it is the responsibility of all the leaders of communities to ensure Peace in their domain.
“We should not allowed Religious crisis in Nigeria because no country survived with religious crisis, nobody will survive religious war”.
“No reasoned for killing any Nigerian, we were told that herdsmen sack the entire village, this is condemnable and I don’t understand what those people think, but the Federal Government will take immediate action to ensure that this madness is put to stop”. He said.
“It is unfortunate that some people want to make some gains either political and are taken advantage of innocent women and children”.
“I was directed by the President who is saddened with the situation and I have come now to talk with both sides, the Federal Government is here not only to restored Peace, but to ensure there is peace in Plateau State.
The Vice President, however, said Plateau State has been an example of Peaceful coexistence not locally, but internationally and wonder why the recent killings.
Governor Simon Lalong while welcoming the Vice President said he was surprised with the recent killings, saying on his assumption of office he called both the Berom and Fulani communities and form a committee which brought out a Roadmap to Peace.
Lalong said he was disappointed by the killings.
Osinbanjo who was accompanied by the Governor of Kebbi State Senator Atiku Bagudu and Minister of State Steel and Mines Abubakar Bawa later went into a closed door meeting with leaders of the various communities including the Gbong Gwom Jos Da Jacob Gyang Buba, Police Commissioner and STF Commander in the state amongst other top Government officials.
