Ondo: Drunken man kills grandson with Dane gun

A 64-year-old man, Gabriel Fasoyin, has reportedly shot dead his grandson, Seun, at Ile-Oluji in Ile- Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred at Agric Settlement in Ile-Oluji. Family sources said the incident occurred on Wednesday when the man had taken excessive alcohol. A source said the suspect was in the habit of getting drunk. “The man was fond of drinking too much alcohol and his family members were not happy with the habit because he used to mess himself up whenever he is drunk. At times he would drink, become unconscious and urinate all over his body. “The family members were not happy with his drinking habit and they have made several efforts to change him but were not successful.

“On that day, he was drunk as usual, so in order not to embarrass the family again, he was locked up in a room so that he could sleep but he did not. As Seun, his grandson, was trying to lock the room with a key, the man brought out a Dane gun and shot the boy.” However, the suspect has been arrested by the police for culpable homicide. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident.

Joseph said the suspect had been arrested and currently in the police custody while the investigation was ongoing. He said: “I can confirm that the boy was shot by his grandfather, who is already with us. He was shot at close range and died on the spot. We have commenced investigation on the matter.” Joseph added that the suspect would appear in court after the completion of the investigation. The remains of the deceased were said to have been deposited at an undisclosed morgue.
