The tempo of activities was unusually high at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja ,Lagos as the Rotary Club of Agege held its colourful investiture for the Transport Secretary, Federal Capital Territory and former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa as its 35th President.
Legal luminaries, medical professionals, administrators, politicians and traditional rulers graced the event where they described the man as source of inspiration for the upcoming generations. Speaking with journalists, Rotary Club President, Opeifa said that his administration would focus on positively touching the lives of 300,000 residents of Agege, adding that club under his leadership, would embark on more human developmental programmes.
Opeifa said that that his administration would specifically focus on the six areas which, are parts of the sustainable development goals. He added that maternal and child health care, prevention of diseases, empowerment, literacy improvement and conflict resolution would be given priority.
To ensure 24 hours regular power supply, the former commissioner added that the club also planned to install solar power light in three of the Primary health centres, (PHC) in Agege, assuring that the gesture would improve health service in the place. He said, “we plan local and international health service mission. We also plan to provide incubators in the hospitals. We also ensure that the three PHCs have quality facilities such as bedding and mattresses. We will also be negating in mentoring activities to shape the lives of our younger ones. We will be reaching out to at least, 1200 students on our get back to school programme.
Also speaking, the former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressive Congress, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN) charged Opeifa to do everything humanly possible to reform the street urchins in Agege and improve the environment.
He said:”Kayode Opeifa is a jolly good fellow, I’m sure he will do his best to add to the service he is rendering to people. My expectation and prayer to him is that he will be able to deliver well beyond expectations. I expect him to change the environmental state of Agege as a whole, reform the area boys and street urchins; make them useful to the society.”
On his part, Chief Falana pledged to work with Opeifa to enable him deliver on his expectations as the 35th president of the club. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) urged the member of the club to endeavor to speak to those in power in order to make the nation better.
