The Focal Person for the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme (SIP) in Edo State, Osayuwamen Aladeselu, has lauded the N-Power beneficiaries deployed to Eweka Primary School, Useh in Egor Local Government Area of the state for donating a standard Volleyball Court to the school as part of her contribution to bolster extra-curricular activities. Aladeselu, who gave the commendation during the official commissioning of a volleyball court at school, said the SIP was in fulfillment of the campaign promise of the President Muhammadu Buhari to engage over 500,000 youths and reduce youth unemployment in the country.
According to her, about 200, 000 youths have been engaged under the first batch of the programme, while another 300,000 beneficiaries are already on board. “One of the cardinal objectives of the Federal Government in the N-Power initiative is to address the challenges of youth unemployment by providing a structure for skills acquisition and development,” she added. Aladeselu, however, described the volleyball pitch, built by the N-Power beneficiaries as a Community Development Project and a way of giving back to the people and society, even as she noted that the project would go a long way in adding value to the community as it would assist pupils to nurture their sporting talent.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Enagbare Queen, who commended the N-Power beneficiaries for the donation, added that the beneficiaries had not only been committed in carrying out their primary assignment, but also in creating a cordial relationship between the teachers and the management. She urged the Federal Government to regularise the employment of the beneficiaries, noting that such gesture would further give them the assurance that they have an employment that is satisfactory and pensionable.
