APC primaries: I’ll defeat Amosun’s candidate, Dapo Abiodun boasts

The chairman, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Prince Dapo Abiodun, has vowed to defeat the preferred gubernatorial candidate of Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the direct primaries of the Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abiodun, who is a front line APC governorship aspirant, described the recent actions of Governor Amosun as poorly scripted dramatic fiction.

He spoke in Iperu-Remo as the crisis rocking the ruling party over the adoption of consensus candidates deepens.

Amosun had backed the choice of a House of Representatives member, Adekunle Akinlade, as the Ogun APC consensus governorship candidate for 2019 elections.

But, yesterday, Abiodun hosted 236 Wards owners and 20 Local Government coordinators at his country home in Iperu-Remo.

The oil magnate, in his address, flayed the governor over the controversy trailing the selection of party candidates for the 2019 elections.

He, however, expressed confidence in his ability to defeat whoever the governor supported for primaries.

Abiodun urged his supporters to be steadfast and stand firm, saying “we are going to have a direct primary as instructed by the National Working Committee of our great party and we shall win.”

One of the APC chieftains, who spoke at the event, Chief Bode Mustapha, said the meeting was in solidarity with Abiodun’s gubernatorial aspiration and the yearning of people of the state for improved leadership.

Mustapha, who is the chairman, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), faulted the consensus arrangement foisted on the party by the governor.

According to him, the consensus candidate presented by Amosun was unilaterally done by the governor against the values and ideals of the party which promotes true democracy.

Mustapha, who was the Director-General of Amosun’s re-election campaign in 2015, described Abiodun as the most credible and qualified aspirant to transform the state.

The event, which was aimed at sensitizing the gathering on the ongoing continuous membership registration of APC, attracted several notable party leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state.
