Arrest Tinubu over tax fraud – PDP tells EFCC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu over allegations of tax fraud.

Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP‎ said, should be questioned over an alleged N160 billion tax fraud by a company linked to him‎.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, ‎noted that the Ibrahim Magu-led EFCC which arrests and detain perceived political opponents of President Muhammadu Buhari, without investigation, has become a toothless bulldog because a member of the APC cabal was involved.

“Does it not smack of hypocrisy that President Buhari, who boasted that he was going to jail more looters, has been looking the other way, while presidency officials suppress investigations since whistleblowers alerted that Alpha Beta, a company linked with his party leader, Asiwaju Tinubu, allegedly swindled Nigerians to the tune of a whopping N160 billion in tax fraud?

“Is it not equally hypocritical that under the same President Buhari’s watch, where the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has threatened to block the bank accounts of tax evaders, a leader of his party had been dragged before the EFCC, yet Mr President is pretending to be unaware?” the party asked.

It challenged President Buhari to prove that he is a Mr. Integrity, by allowing an investigation into the tax fraud allegation and prosecute Alpha Beta, if the presidency is not complicit of corruption.

The party added that President Buhari cannot approve the hounding of opposition members or his perceived enemies on allegations of corruption while at the same time shielding and defending his party members accused and indicted for corruption.
