Four Nigerian students, among them a 19-year-old boy, have been arrested in Cyprus and India for allegedly peddling drugs. Three students were apprehended for drug-related offence in Cyprus while a 30-year-old man, Jimmy Amuzu, was arrested for allegedly peddling drugs in India. The three students are Raymon Stephen Ekerete, Mary Jane Ahunna Onuegbu and Isabella Abosede Brown. According to Times of India, Amuzu was arrested on Friday by the Excise and Enforcement officials near Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills where he was peddling the drugs. After he was arrested, about four grams of cocaine were reportedly recovered from him.
Amuzu, a resident of Mini Gulshan Colony in Tolichowki, was said to have been engaged by another Nigerian drug peddler from Mumbai to sell the drug in the city on a commission basis. Superintendent Anji Reddy, an Assistance excise officer, said Amuzu came to the city recently to supply drugs to customers.
He said: “The kingpin of the racket operating from Mumbai was known with a codename: ‘Government’. Amuzu saved his number with the same name. Usually, the kingpin used to receive the drug from an unidentified source, which was handed over to Amuzu who sold it for Rs6,000 per grams.” Amuzu told the operatives that ‘Government’ usually gets order for supply of cocaine, which is later forwarded to him.
The suspect had customers in Filmnagar, Jubilee Hills, Towlichowki and other areas in the city. The Excise Department officials were said to have handed Amazu and the drugs to the police for further investigation. While a cell phone and 17,000 cash was recovered from him. Meanwhile, CyprusMail. com said the three students were under investigation by narcotics police in Cyprus, after being arrested for the sale of 13 packets of drugs believed to be synthetic cannabinoid and ecstasy.
Police officer, Mahir Türe, said Ekerete was arrested in front of his apartment building, while Onuegbu was arrested in her room. Scales used in drug weighing and materials used in the packaging the drugs were reportedly retrieved from the students.
