I’ll be reliable, responsive, new CP tells Umahi

A new Commissioner of Police (CP) posted to Ebonyi State, Musa Kimo, yesterday said he would be responsible, responsive and reliable while discharging his duties in the state.

He stated this at the Government House, Abakaliki, during a courtesy call on Governor Dave Umahi.

Kimo was posted to the state few days ago following the transfer of Titus Lamorde, the former commissioner to Police Detective, Enugu.

Kimo, who solicited the cooperation of Governor Umahi and people of the state, warned criminals to flee the state or be ready to be declared persona non-grata.

“Having taken over, I feel it is only proper and expedient that I pay a courtesy call on you, which you have graciously approved in your capacity as the chief security officer of the state.

“When I took over, I was properly briefed by my predecessor, who happens to be a friend and my course mate and he did not mince words.

“He confirmed to me how you have cooperated, how you collaborated, how you assisted the command and here I am with my officers. First is to introduce myself, and two to solicit for continued assistance, co-operation so that we will be able to maintain and improve on the gains of my predecessor.

“It is our intension to declare criminals, unscrupulous persona non-grata in Ebonyi State. Your Excellency, the police under my watch will be responsible, will be responsive, will be reliable and I tell you, you can trust us,” he told Umahi.

Responding, Umahi urged security agents in the state to be impartial and avoid being used to intimidate the people.

He described as Satanism, the use of force to oppress perceived opponents or enemies.

Umahi said: “We have been told of your pedigree, your forthrightness, fear of God and professionalism. We are not asking for any favour from anybody, but security men must be upright and they must do their work and they must be impartial.”

“Here in Ebonyi State, we prepare to resist any arm of security outfit that is out to undo our people, we will not agree, we will not cooperate. But the moment you are professional, we will work and cooperate with you.

“It is an act of Satanism for anybody to want to use the police or any other security agent to oppress another person and we are not known for that. You have met Ebonyi State in peace and relative peace with our border communities, very good political atmosphere and very low crime rate,” the governor concluded.
