Plateau to hold LG poll October 10

Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) yesterday fixed October 10, for the conduct of local government election in the state.

Chairman of the body in the state, Hon. Fabian Ntung, while briefing journalists in Jos said the election would be conducted in 13 local government councils out of the 17 in the state due to security concerns.

New Telegraph reports that the four local governments where election would not hold include the ones in the northern zone of the state, which were also PDP strongholds, includinge Barkin Kadi, Riyom, Jos South and Jos North respectively.

Ntung while assuring the people of the state of PLASIEC determination to deliver a free, fair and credible election, appealed for understanding and cooperation towards the success of the poll.

“The Plateau State independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) wishes to inform the general public and all the stakeholders in the political process that following security clearance, the hitherto postponed local government council election will now hold in 13 of the 17 local government areas of the state on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.”


“The local government areas where the election will hold include Bassa, Bokkos, Jos East, Kanam, Kanke, Langtang North, Langtang South, Mangu, Mikang, Pankshin, Qua’anPan, Shendam and Wase.”
The chairman said for the local government councils where election would not hold, the commission would announce a new date as soon as the necessary clearance was obtained.
