Police commission deploys 40 to monitor officers’ conduct

The Police Service Commission (PSC), yesterday, said forty of its officials would be deployed to Osun State to monitor the conduct of officers and personnel during the Saturday’s bubernatorial election.

This comes few days after the Force Headquarters disclosed that “robust” security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee a trouble-free election.

A statement by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said the Chairman, Mr. Musiliu Smith, enjoined police personnel deployed for the exercise to operate within the bounds of election guidelines.

The statement read in part: “The Police Service Commission will be deploying over 40 of its Staff to monitor the conduct of policemen on electoral duties during the Osun State governorship election holding this Saturday, September 22. The first batch of the monitors will leave Abuja tomorrow (today) September 19.

“The commission’s monitors will be deployed to the three senatorial districts and 30 local government areas of the state. The chairman of the commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police said the commission will be taking the Osun monitoring exercise very serious as it will serve as a test run for the 2019 general elections.

“Alhaji Smith said the PSC monitors have been availed with the guidelines for the conduct of police officers on electoral duty and also the commission’s monitoring check list that would be uses to assess the performance of the police.”
