Sanusi applauds President Weah



The Secretary General of Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi, has applauded Liberia President George Weah for setting a record when he played against Nigeria in an international friendly match on Tuesday.

Weah, who started the match as a skipper and played until the 79th minute, once again showed his skill as a former world best footballer.

Sanusi commended the President stating he hasn’t seen or heard of such act from the number one citizen of a country.

“The Liberia president was arguably the best Africa player ever. He is the only African footballer to win World Footballer of the Year, European Footballer of the Year, BBC Footballer of the Year, and he wanted to drop his jersey number 14 which he did in a grand style by even playing in the match. I have never seen or heard in my life where the President of a country is playing an international friendly match, he has set a record. ” he told our correspondent

The NFF scribe also applauded the Nigeria Super Eagles, despite the inclusion of home-base players, the players were still able to get a 2-1 victory against the Lone Stars of Liberia.

“The international friendly match against Liberia was a good one even though we did not go with the full complement of our team. We were able to integrate some of the home-based players and we still won the match, said Sanusi who emphasized on Nigeria’s qualification for the 2019 AFCON.

Speaking with New Telegraph, Abia Warriors centre-forward, Sunday Adetunji, who made his debut match for the Super Eagles on Tuesday in the match against Liberia expressed his happiness for being one of the chosen players to represent the country in the international friendly and how he look forward to more of such opportunities.

He said: “I was in cloud nine when Nigeria national team choose me. I give God all the glory for the opportunity and am eager to do more if am call upon any time, and I am ready to represent my country, and make a great part of the national team.”
