The dearth of facilities confronting the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, owned by the Rivers State Government, resulting from paucity of funds, would soon become a thing of the past.

Wike added: “Here in this university, we recently released the sum of N200 million, as capital grant for 2017 fiscal year and we are happy with what qualitative deployment this money has been used to meet the infrastructure needs of the university.

“We are also pleased with the progressive increase in enrolment being experienced by the university in recent times, which shows a growing confidence in the quality and relevance of the progammes of the university.

“These unparalleled achievements clearly testify to the fact that the university is fulfilling its mandate of producing quality teaching and administrative manpower to drive the education needs of the state and nation in general.”

Meanwhile, the university also conferred the “Icon of Democracy,” award on former President Goodluck Jonathan, in recognition of his contributions to the growth and survival of democracy in the country.

The greater part of what you commissioned this morning is the result of that grant”, the vice-chancellor said. In his remarks, President Jonathan thanked the institution for the honour conferred on him, noting that it was like a home-coming for him, as a former lecturer at the Rivers State College of Education, which was upgraded to a full-fledged university.
