A former Super Eagles head coach Austin Eguavoen, has written off the Libyan national team as Nigeria hosts the North Africans on Saturday in Uyo.
Eguavoen said that Libya was not a team that would give the Super Eagles nights when it comes to African football. He stated that the Gernot Rohr-led Squad had all it takes to humble the visitors at home and away.
“Look, Libya is not a team that will give the Super Eagles sleepless nights, day or dark, rain or shine, Eagles are capable of putting the Libyans where they belong. Let us not make mistake about it, I will not agree with people saying that Libya is a threat to us. They are not.
“Our boys should be ashamed to fear Libya. Even a small team from the Nigeria premier League will put Libya in their right place,” Eguavoen said.
On the preparation of the team, he said” I’m not a member of the technical crew, so I cannot comment on the level of their preparations, but I do know that the North African side is a not a team Nigeria should be scared of. They know that they have a serious job at hand, so they do not need a prophet to tell them that they have to win that game and regain the hearts of Nigerians. Nigeria won the 2013 edition of the Nations Cup under our late big brother, friend and colleague Stephen Keshi, so if our boys know what is good, they should win the 2019 AFCON in memory of Keshi.
“My appeal to the NFF is to play their role very well so that the boys will not have excuse for failure in the ongoing AFCON qualifiers.”
