An aspirant in the recently conducted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has described the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the party’s presidential primary as the will of Allah. Similarly, one of the runners- up during the primaries, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, has congratulated and pledged his support to Atiku.
Atiku polled 1,532 votes among 12 aspirants to lead while Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state polled 693 votes to come second. According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the spokesman for Makarfi, Alhaji Mukhtar Sirajo, in a statement, congratulated Atiku for emerging as the PDP candidate, saying given Atiku’s doggedness, he was optimistic that the former vice president will successfully lead the party in the crucial battle to rescue the country and return it to the path of sanity. Makarfi, who was the party’s former Caretaker Committee Chairman, recalled that “prior to our party’s convention, we all came together to commit to the success of the party in the 2019 general elections irrespective of the outcome of the primaries.
He said: “I wish to convey his most sincere appreciation and gratitude to Almighty Allah for the peaceful and successful conclusion of the PDP convention in Port Harcourt, which culminated in the emergence of Wazirin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, as the party’s flag bearer. “It is a fact that long before the convention, in fact, ever since I threw my hat into the ring of the quest for the nomination, I had, at every turn, made it clear that the contest was not a matter of life and death, believing in, and submitting to the prerogative of God to bestow power on whomsoever He wished. “I also followed that up with a commitment to the party and others, to support whoever would eventually clinch the nomination.
“In keeping faith with that commitment, I extend his congratulations to Wazirin Adamawa and reiterated his commitment to the success of the campaign in all ways.” Meanwhile, Dankwambo, who declared his support for the party’s presidential candidate yesterday in his congratulatory message made available to journalists in Abuja commended Atiku’s doggedness. The governor, who has been offered Gombe North Senatorial District ticket, said God willing, victory will be delivered to PDP in 2019 presidential election. He said: “I assure you of my personal commitment and that of my supporters all over the country in the next presidential race.
