Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Edo State, Hon. Gabriel Oloruntobi, has called on Nigerians to shun vote-buying among other electoral vices during the 2019 general elections. The ADP chieftain, who described vote-buying as detrimental to the growth of the nation’s democracy, said greedy and power seeking politicians are responsible for the political quagmire Nigeria had found itself. Speaking during his party’s primaries in Benin, Oloruntobi said: “I do not understand where we are going to in this country, this new trend of vote- buying by politicians is nothing but a threat to the political future of this great country.
“It is time every eligible vote in Nigeria rise up to say no to it. How long can we continue with this system? Yes, in the world over, there is nowhere election is totally free, people use money but ours is getting out of proportion, it is an international disgrace and embarrassment to our democracy. Time has also come for our electorates to begin to vote personality not party.
“If we continue this way, it then means that credible persons will not have the opportunity of being at the corridor of power. We you x-ray the score cards of both past and present leaders in this country, you will discover that the good ones are not given the opportunity to exhibit what they are made off, is either they are killed or overthrown.
