Phosudo floats Nigeria’s first polo fashion collection, DELIC8

In commemoration of the centennial year of Polo, a.k.a. the Game of Kings, in Nigeria, the first ever Polo locally designed wears, Phosudo, had unveiled its Delic8 collection to teeming enthusiasts of the game in Lagos. Segun Lawson, the creative director of Phosudo brand, had hinted at the unveiling which held last Sunday on Raymond Njoke close, Ikoyi, Lagos that, “I decided to go into a sports brand for the Polo players wear Made-in-Nigeria Polo jerseys which has Nigeria Coat of Arms on them. And I admire what we’ve made so far. Polo has been in Nigeria long before football which enjoyed more fan base. What we do is to create the images of Polo players on our T-Shirts because these players are great but are not as recognized as football players.”

The event attended by highly notable players of the game of kings was hosted by 60 Yards Polo & Riding Academy owned by Muktar Abdullahi Adhama, a Plus II player of Kaduna Polo Club. Lawson later said his bragging right is as the creator of Nigeria’s first sporting brand and while also tying a phase of the celebration to a humanitarian project.

“We are going to be doing an auction of everything here shortly to raise money for a friend who is critically ill. She was diagnosed of the rarest form of cancer and she needs 150,000 pounds to stay alive. It was first about me when we started this project but as soon as I saw the image of our friend, I realised we have to shift attention to her critical need.”

The idea is to create a culture where people actually sleep and dream Polo. The same way a lot of people buy jerseys of football teams, Phosudo aims at making Polo jerseys affordable for all and sundry by creating fan base. Phosudo hopes to challenge a global brand, Nike, in producing for Nigeria, hence Lawson’s remark, “if we have to be Nigerian, we have to embrace Madein- Nigeria jerseys, maybe then we’d win the world cup.”
