Southern Sun Ikoyi thrills guests at Offshore Challenge 2018

It was an exciting and colourful moment for guests and enthusiasts of water sport when the seventh edition of the yearly Southern Sun Ikoyi Offshore Challenge 2018 unfolded last weekend on Lagos waters. The enthralling event, which will linger in the memory of people in attendance, saw a mixed grilled and colourful sailors put on showcase about 15 boats, all decked in suffusing and effervescent colours. All through the duration of the water leisure event, the audience were treated to a skillful and mastery display of sportsmanship and deft mastery of the environment and the sailing boats.

The participating sailors competed in two categories for honours, which included the Hobbies Fleet category and the Lightning Fleet category. At the end of the exciting and keenly contested cruise, participants and guests were later treated to delightsome entertaining section at the Lagos Yacht Club, with canapés and fine wine making the rounds while the different winners were announced and rewarded. Massimo Bettanin and Will Grace emerged as first place winner in the Lightning Fleet category, while sailors Lynn Obray and David Kruyt emerged tops in the Hobbie Fleet category.

It was indeed a relaxing atmosphere at the yacht club, which afforded guests in attendance ample opportunity to interact and network as well as share in the joyous moment. Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Commodore of the Lagos Yacht Club, Julian Hardy, commended Southern Sun Ikoyi for their consistent support in hosting the tournament, which he said brings together friends and sports lovers.

He also commented on the clement weather of the day: “This year’s edition was less intense as the calm weather ensured smooth sailing for the sailors compared to the previous year,” even as he lauded the sportsmanship and competitive spirit on display. On his part, the hotel general manager, Mark Loxley, commended the sailors for partaking in this year’s edition of the offshore challenge and for the resilience shown during the competition. “Through the water sports event, Southern Sun Ikoyi continues to promote the culture of tourism and relaxation, which the hotel represents while also assuring the Lagos Yacht Club of its continuous support as partners within its business community,” disclosed Loxley.
