God said to Hosea “Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him. They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.” (Hosea 8: 3-4).
Those who are far from God, and put Him far from their doings have necessarily “cast off” all that is good for them. Forsaking God which is the embodiment of all that is good is by extension laying yourself bay to all evils.
As God told Hosea in his days that Israel had goofed, and thus would suffer the consequences of their sin until they would realise their folly and repent, so also He tells Nigeria today that they have sinned and must amend their ways else the enemy will pursue and overrun them.
The people of this country have not only transgressed the commandment of God, but have transgressed the covenant. They have revolted from their allegiance, and violated the marriage-covenant with God by their abominable acts in the low and high places.
They have put away the good counselling of maintaining holiness and righteousness, and in effect have declared that they are no longer God’s people. And by such foolish attitude, they have ruined their destiny. There is none good but one, that is God, the fountain of all good and they have cast Him off in all they do and have taken up the licentious and drunken ways of corruption.
How could God identify and use such a nation any further? God is abandoning them to destruction. Thus the enemy of this country is coming with speed and fury to seize it.
God cannot cast off any, till they first cast Him off. When men cast off holiness, righteousness, and other things that are good, God will not hesitate to permit their enemies to strike. Nigerians have sown the wind and should be ready to reap whirlwind except they repent.
The rate of fraud, abortion, robbery, divorce, kidnapping, killing, political intolerance, prostitution, corruption and etc are alarmingly beyond imagination. That is why they labour in vain, labour for the wind, take great pains to no purpose, and weary themselves for vanity. That is why there is no peace between the North and South.
The insecurity and political exigency exacted on the horizon of the country by the actions and reactions of political, economic and social sinners could be dispelled if we amend our ways and return to God. 2Chron. 30: 8-9 says, “Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
9 For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him”
If we can turn again unto the LORD, we shall find compassion before Him and shall be delivered from captivity: for the LORD our God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn us away, if we return unto Him.
