UNEC students’ union showcases achievements

The President of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu Campus chapter of the Students’ Union has ex-rayed the numerous achievements of his administration since he assumed office in April 21, last year. According to Emmanuel Ebuka Nwankwo, in a statement signed by Asogwa Chidi Samuel and which was made available to newsmen in Enugu, the union under Nwankwo’s watch has achieved tremendous achievements in last one year he took the mantle of leadership of the union.

The Nwankwo-led SUG, according to the release, among other salient achievements has provided street lights on the campus, especially in the hostel areas as well as WIFI connection to enable students to have access 24-hour Internet connectivity at the comfort of their hostel rooms.

“The students of University of Nigeria can now enjoy free, unrestrained and unlimited access to UNN hotspot right in their hostel rooms with ease.The risk of going out at night in search of wireless internet connection at the ICT centre has been addressed,” the statement added, saying: “There is now street light all over the place and the wave of crime on campus has greatly been curbed.”

Apart from street lights and internet services, the union, through the university authorities has provided a 3000 KVA generator to ensure steady power supply whenever there is outage from the national grid.

“The generator connection has also been extended to the Faculty of Environmental Sciences to enable the students carry out their studio and construction assignments without hitches,” he added.

The Nwankwo led-Students’ Union, the statement noted, has ensured that there is increased water supply in the campuses, even as he renovated the basketball pitch and the volleyball court for the sports development and relaxation of the students.

Another outstanding achievement of the union, under Nwankwo’s leadership, is what could best be described, when eventually actualized, as the provision of a bus for students at the Enugu Campus of the university, in which plans had already been concluded for its provision.

He said: “Remarkably from the inception of this administration, the union has been operating on a zero budget, but that notwithstanding, the leadership has thus far recorded giant achievements.

We also brought Guarantee Trust Bank Plc to opened free account for every interested student as well as giving out items such as phones, refrigerators, laptops among others to some students. “We also renovated the basketball bitch and volleyball court in a bid to enhance sporting activities on campus and reduce crime rate among the students.”
