Armed youths suspected to be cult members have killed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State, Sunday Afolabi.
Afolabi, attached to the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of the NSCDC, was shot dead on Afao road, Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday. An insider source within the command said the victim was shot in the chest at close range about 3:30 p.m.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Alberto Adeyemi, said Afolabi, whose body was deposited at the mortuary by policemen who visited the scene, was killed by those suspected to be “cult boys”.
He said: “I have just spoken with OC-SARS (Officer-in-Charge, Special Anti-Robbery Squad) and he said the cult boys killed the person on Afao Road where the NSCDC office is located.
“We sympathise with our sister security agency on the killing of the officer. Investigation has commenced into the incident.”
The state NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Tolu Afolabi, who also confirmed the killing, said investigation had begun to unravel the masterminds.
He said: “Gunmen killed an officer of NSCDC, Sunday Afolabi, an Assistant Superintendent Corps 1 (ASC1), on Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 19th April, 2017.
“The officer was shot in the heart and his corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while investigation continues.”
