Militancy: Amosun promises APCs, patrol vans for police

  • DIG warns officers over extra-judicial killings
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday vowed to tackle resurgent militant activities at riverine areas in the state.
Amosun, who spoke in Abeokuta while receiving the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South West, Foluso Adebanjo, promised to donate more armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and patrol vans for the police to ease their operations.
The governor stressed the need to take proactive measures in nipping criminal activities in the bud, especially in riverine areas of the state.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the police and other security agencies to successfully combat militancy in the country.
Amosun, who bemoaned militant activities in some parts of the state, however, assured that the state would not be a comfort zone for criminals.
“Criminals would always want to come, but we will not take our eyes off them,” the governor stated, adding that his administration would make available two additional APCs and vehicles to enhance their operations.
Meanwhile, the DIG Wednesday warned officers and men of police commands in the geopolitical zone against accidental discharge, extra-judicial killings and corrupt practices.
